Tomorrow is Yesterday has the Pokemon League every
Saturday from 3:30 until 5:30 pm The Pokémon TCG League is a great way for players of all ages to get together and hone their skills (and decks) in a casual setting. League members are rewarded for playing games, win or lose. The more you play, the more you earn! The 2008-2009 league cycle takes players back to basics, by focusing on Energy types. The league cycle is broken down into eight seasons, each of which lasts about six weeks and represents one of the eight main Energy types found in the TCG. During the span of the Energy League, players will earn organized play exclusive promo cards, badges and mini-posters.
The League time is less structured than the Tournament time, and is recommended for those who are newer to the game or those who more interested in trading cards, deckbuilding and earning badges in a more casual format.
Come join us at TIY for the Pokemon League in our new, bigger gameroom! We have a lot of fun!

Tomorrow Is Yesterday hosts many Premiere Events throughout the year, such as Prereleases and City Championships. If we anticipate larger numbers than our in-store Gameroom can hold (usually 32 in the room with additional available seating for 16 more if needed), then we often hold those events up the street at the North Suburban Women's Club. Our Premiere Events are always a lot of fun and if ever you have the chance to make it to one, be sure to do so! You'll always have a good time at a TIY Premiere Event, and I always bake cookies for those who come join us! We will keep you posted here of our most current events. Our judging staff for various events includes Devin Peltier-Robson, Keny Bailey, and sometimes Eric Ennocenti, Matt Ennocenti, Troy Lesky, Ryan Alperstein, Derrick Krenke, &/or Adam Vernola. |

As many of you know, our Devin has been missing from TIY for the past 2 months. Where has he been you ask? He was travelling around the country as the Head Referee for all of the Pokemon Video Game Championships this spring/summer. The Video Game Championships were amazing this year... read all about them here at the Pokemon VGC website. Here's a list of where the Regional Championships were held and where Dev's been traveling to; Seattle, WA Regional Championships - May 9, 2009
and up next, the final stop on the Video Game Championships tour...
So, our own Devin, aka 'Marriland', will be able to be at TIY with us again for over a month! And he'll even be able to be at our Supreme Victors Prerelease on Aug 8th ! |
What a great time at Nationals!!!
They broke all records for attendance there! There were over 1500 players who came for the Video Game and Card Game National Championships, which was all held under one roof, at America's Center in St Louis MO. It was Amazing! Lots of our TIY players were there too! The final Top 32 matches took place on Sunday. That's incredible! And the event went amazingly smooth, considering the massive number of players attending! And it was great having both the Video Game and Card Game events both going on together. They also had Side Events and the Pokemon League going on all 3 days. At the League, you played a game with someone, you both went up to the computer, told them who won, then you each drew a card, some were straight up Pokemon Cards... commons, uncommons, rares, Lvl X's, some had things written on them, like Sleeves, Notebook, Booster pack... that sort of thing. Whoever won the game got to pick what they wanted of the two choices. It was great really! I got a bunch of fun stuff, and Derrick (our Judge at TIY sometimes) even won Platinum with a DSi to play it on! The Video Game Championships had 4 different color 'flights', playing 5 Swiss rounds, with the top 4 players in each color 'flight' going on to play in the finals on Sunday. I got to help out as a Game Assistant in the Orange zone, which was great fun. Our own Ben M was entered, but unfortunately came in 5th, so just missed the finals. On Sunday the top 16 played in best 2 out of 3 Single Elimination rounds, until they had 2 finalists in each of the 2 age groups. The final matches were played on the big stage with monitors so the audience could watch in 3D action. Was a lot of fun to watch! It was an incredible couple of days, and I was so glad I could go! Unfortunately I missed attending my PTO Conference because we didn't arrive until Thurs afternoon. Shortly after we arrived my back was giving me some serious pain, so I didn't walk down to the other hotel down the street where my conference was. But later that eve I was able to attend the special PTO dinner they had for us at a wonderful restuarant right in our hotel. (We stayed at the Renaissance Grand) It was great being able to meet a lot of the other PTOs that I'd previously only spoken to online. Well, I did try to take a lot of pictures and videos, and I'm sure you'll find others from Youtube as well. Pokepress did some great interviews and coverage, you'll find them in my favorites there. Like I said, I'll have my videos up shortly. Click here for pictures from my trip I'll have videos from my great time there up shortly! And be sure to check out the OP website for all the details on the event! |
Hold onto your hats everyone!! Time for another awesome TIY Prerelease!!
View a gallery of assorted Supreme Victors card images Supreme Victors Prerelease Sat Aug 8th Cost: $25 (over $35 value!) *see details below!
So what time does the fun start? Contact me to reserve your seat! ******************************************** As usual, we will be having two different ways to play in the Prerelease: Want to get some extra booster packs? Bring in your friends, neighbors, parents... for every new person you bring in to play, in either the Main Event or the Theme Deck Challenge, I'll give you a bonus pack! Let's face it, Pokemon is a GREAT game, we ALL love it, and it's MORE fun the more people who play! This is going to be a VERY exciting new set and this is the very first day it's available too! You won't want to miss it!! Also keep in mind the spirit of a Prerelease is non-competitive, with no real pressure to win, which is why everyone will receive prize packs at the end. The main objective is to have fun and check out all the new cards! But don't worry, we'll have LOTS of random pack giveaways throughout the day! I also have some really cool door prizes to give out... besides packs and sleeves and such, I'll give out a free Pass to our next Prerelease worth $25, as well as some other great door prizes! You can be sure we'll have a good time!
EMAIL me or call TIY (815-633-0330) to Preregister! Supreme Victors Prerelease
Main event - Each player will receive 6 booster packs of the new set (to keep) and may start opening their packs. Players will each build their own 40 card deck (using only those cards from the 6 packs) to play in the tourney and write down their decklist, deciding how many energies they will want to include in their decks. ( no trading cards with others until after the Tourney) Basic energies are provided on loan, and for this Prerelease we will also have special Proxie Basic Dark and Basic Metal Energies. Everyone will then have 30 minutes to build their decks using the cards from the packs they received. And don't worry, it's not really that hard to build your own deck... generally there aren't a whole lot of trainers in a set, so you'll usually want to include as many of them that will be helpful as you can. You want to make sure you have as many basic Pokemon as you can, and include any evolutions that you might have been lucky enough to get as well. Try to keep your deck to 2 or 3 types, like Fire and Electric or whichever, because that will be helpful to you in drawing the particular energies you need for your Pokemon's attacks. Of course Colorless type Pokemon can fit nicely into any type of deck since they can use any type of energy you happen to have. Since your deck needs to be 40 cards in total, a relatively simple rule of thumb would be 20 energies and 20 in any combination of basics, their evolutions (if you got any), and trainers. Then, just decide how many of which type of energies you'll need to get by looking over the energy requirements for your Pokemon's attacks. And that's pretty much all there is to it! Remember, it's a tournament for fun, so don't stress over building 'the perfect deck'... just have fun with it!
Prizes:ALL participants who finish will receive 2 more Supreme Victors prize packs at the end of the tourney ************************************************************************ Supreme Victors Prerelease This special tourney will be separate from the main event and follows a much more casual format. Great for younger players, parents, or those who may not be as familiar with deck building on their own, but would still like to participate. If you don't know how to play, we can teach you! Each player will choose one of 2 different Supreme Victors Theme Decks to use to battle others who also choose the Theme Deck Challenge, and the nice thing about playing the Theme Deck Challenge is that each Theme Deck also comes with one of the new Rulebooks and playmats, a special coin, and your own damage counters, all very useful tools for the newer players. And all participants in this Theme Deck Challenge will ALSO receive 4 more Supreme Victors prize packs for participating in the tourney, in addition to the decks they played. If you know you're going to want to be in the Theme Deck Challenge, let me know when you Preregister so I can mark you down for it. Or you can decide when you get there. Often there are more players who want to play the Theme Deck Challenge in the afternoon, so that's why I usually have then, since it's more fun the more players you have. But I have enough product to run it for as many who want it this time. Last time we had a Theme Deck Challenge at both the morning and the afternoon events. ************************************************************************ Also... if you want to come and play, but can't afford it, we have an option for you... I have a Sponsor program... sometimes I have regular players who, for whatever reason, can't make it to the Prerelease but still don't want to miss out, so they need someone to fill in for them. If you get sponsored by someone, they pay for your entry, they get the cards you pull, the sleeves and the Promo card, but you get to keep any door prizes you win, and you get the fun of actually being able to still participate in the tourney and play with the new cards. It's a win-win situation. Contact me if you need a sponsor or want to be one.
Can't wait to see you there! Contact me to reserve your seat now!

In Loving Memory of Rich...
We at TIY wish to remember our good friend and Poke-Dad, Rich Williams.. He passed away suddenly on Nov 17th, 2007 at only 37 years old. He had been a regular player at TIY in the Tourney and League for many years and many of you have played either him in the Masters or his son Jeremiah in the Junior Division. He was loved by all of us at Tomorrow Is Yesterday and will be missed by all of his friends in the Pokemon community. He traveled to many of the area events, including Nationals, and always helped bring many of the kids to the various events if they needed a ride. He was always there to help loan you a card you needed for your deck or trade for that last needed card in a set. He was kind, funny, generous, and all around one of the greatest guys we have ever known. He was full of the 'Spirit of the Game' and we will all remember him forever with love in our hearts...
As we would say in Hawaii, where my sons Devin and Dusty were born, Memorials to Jeremiah Williams' college fund can be made in care of: |
